The KUNZ BBS Brake Build-Up Stand has been designed around a single principle: combining safety and efficiency in aircraft brake maintenance.
The stand provides a secure, ergonomic platform for single-operator assembly and disassembly of aircraft brakes. Each brake model requires a dedicated torque adapter, which is securely mounted on the BBS base plate. When switching between brake models, the adapter can be quickly and easily replaced, ensuring flexibility across multiple aircraft brake systems.
The foot-pump-driven hydraulic cylinder offers both a clamping action – to secure the brake hub on the stand – and a push-out function via three low-profile hydraulic cylinders, enabling controlled and easy brake disassembly. Clamping plates on one side and the brake adapter on the other fix the brake firmly in place for proper torque application.
The KUNZ BBS is built around a foot-pump-driven hydraulic cylinder, an extension shaft with notches and an associated clamping disc. The double-acting cylinder features a hand switch to select between brake clamping and push-out action. The pump is equipped with a pressure valve, a non-return valve and a check valve for safe, controlled operation.
Its compact footprint and optimised working height make the BBS easy to integrate into any workshop layout, while ensuring that all critical fasteners are comfortably accessible for the operator throughout the entire assembly and disassembly process.
To clamp the brake, the appropriate brake adapter is placed onto the base plate and locked to prevent any movement during assembly or disassembly. The brake is then placed onto the adapter and extension shaft. The clamping disc is mounted on top of the extension shaft, and by operating the foot pump the shaft retracts – clamping the brake hub securely in place.
For disassembly, after loosening the nuts, the push-out plate is activated by the three low-profile hydraulic cylinders, pushing the brake components apart in a controlled and safe manner.

For optimal maintenance performance, KUNZ recommends using the BBS in combination with the KUNZ UTT for Brakes. Each brake model requires a dedicated torque adapter, which mounts securely to the BBS base plate. When switching to a different brake type, the adapter is quickly replaced – ensuring flexibility, efficiency and precise CMM-compliant torque application across all supported aircraft brake systems.
